Weekly Bulletin: 2023-05-03
“The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Heb. 7:23–25).
After a long and winding rabbit trail, the writer of Hebrews finally is able to address the point he’s been circling since chapter 5 — namely, that Jesus is a priest from a better priesthood, that of Melchizedek. This point is, to be sure, not without controversy. But the writer is adamant about leaving no stone unturned as he endeavors to exalt the supremacy of Christ above all things and in all things.
I hope you’ll be in your spots this Sunday, May 7, at 10 AM as, Lord willing, I’ll be examining this seminal chapter of Hebrews, chapter 7. Also, since it’s the first Sunday of the month, we’ll be observing the Lord’s Supper as part of the service, too. During the evening service, we will be continuing in our study of 1 John by looking at the first six verses of chapter 4. Come out Sunday evening at 6 to take part in that. I look forward to seeing you and worshiping with you this weekend!
Blessings 🙏 Pastor Brad
