Weekly Bulletin: 2023-03-29
“‘Behold, the days are coming,’ declares the Lord God,
‘when I will send a famine on the land—
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,
but of hearing the words of the Lord.
They shall wander from sea to sea,
and from north to east;
they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord,
but they shall not find it.’”
(Amos 8:11–12)
One of God’s fiercest judgments is, in fact, giving his people what they think they want. When his own people, the people of Israel, turned away from him for the umpteenth time, he judged them by giving them what their spiritual posture indicated they wanted — that is, the supposed “benefits” of idolatry and iniquity. But that road never leads to prosperous ends; only destruction. Along with that, though, as the Lord indicates through the prophet Amos, his judgment of his takes the form of a famine of the Word.
Gather with us this Sunday, Apr. 2, at 10 AM as, Lord willing, I’ll be unpacking these verses, and others, out of the Old Testament prophecy of Amos. Also, don’t forget about our 6 PM gather, where I’ll be pressing forward in our study of 1 John by looking at chapter 3. Join your brothers and sisters in Christ as we gather around God’s Word together once again!
Blessings 🙏 Pastor Brad
There will be a brief meeting for all current and prospective Jr. Church teachers immediately following the morning service this week in Rooms 4/5.
