A Note From Pastor Brad
Dear Church,
Some were asking me after last night’s special event with guest speaker, Eric Attinger, what my position was on some of these matters. Whenever the topics of time, science, and aliens, it can feel like you’re opening up a proverbial “can of worms.” These subjects naturally invite curiosity and excitement and sometimes even conspiracy. I hope and pray that that wasn’t your takeaway after last night’s talk since I think it is helpful and important to think through some of these matters biblically, with the guardrails of the Bible on, so to speak.
Eric and I have talked on numerous occasions outside of the church, even before last night’s event was planned. And while I don’t share his views on all of the topics that were raised during his talk, he would be the first to tell you that that is okay. In fact, that’s sort of the point. Much of what was talked about last night is not something over which brothers and sisters in Christ should divide or separate. Eric even expressed that near the end of his talk: the fundamental doctrines of the faith — Jesus’s virgin birth, Jesus’s sinlessness, Jesus’s vicarious life, death, and resurrection, etc. — are the only matters that warrant going separate ways. Disagreements over theoretical physics and paranormal phenomena don’t.
Perhaps it would be most helpful to re-emphasize the point on which the talk ended — namely, that the attraction of “alien encounters” and UFO sightings is likely evidence of Satan’s weaponization of distraction. That’s what Satan wants. He desires nothing more than to distract Christ’s church from Christ’s mission; from the simple commission to preach and make disciples in the name of Jesus (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). If more of these events become mainstream, how are you going to think about them biblically? Are you going to let them rule you or are you going to process them according to God’s Word?
Eric and I were chatting afterward and we both agreed: no matter what you believe about aliens, angels, or interdimensional beings, none of those things if proven true should rattle your faith. That is what I hope you take away. The gospel is true, no matter what, come what may. Your only lifeline is the grace of God incarnate, Jesus Christ. The enemy would love nothing more than to distract you from that truth. God’s Word, however, wants you to see and know that that’s your only hope.
Blessings 🙏 Pastor Brad
